One of Britain's most famous archaeologists, Flinders Petrie died on this day in 1942. The results of his widespread excavations in Egypt were left to University College London, and now form the Petrie Museum, one of the largest collections of ancient Egyptian pottery and tomb artefacts anywhere. The museum - off Malet Street in the UCL campus - is open from 1-5pm.
