About a mile awayBefore widescreen TV there was Antoine Wiertz, an artist who produced canvases so vast - one classical battle scene is eight metres long - that they're still in his home where he painted them. Visit and discover more about this nineteenth-century Belgian artist, with his range of paintings on romantic, fantastic and horrific themes, at the Wiertz Museum on Rue Vautier in the Léopold district of Brussels, from 10am to 5pm (though closed for lunch from noon-12.45pm).
