It may be falling out of fashion these days, but having a gas supply to your home in the Victorian era was cutting edge. Discover the challenges of piping explosive gas into houses, together with the evolution of the domestic appliances in the 19th and 20th centuries that used it, at the National Gas Museum in Leicester, this Tuesday from 10am to 3pm (last admission 2.30pm). The museum is situated on Aylestone Road, aptly enough, in the original 1870 gatehouse to Leicester Gas Works.
